Maltese (long coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Adult : : Small
Hi everyone!! My name is Marie and I'm hoping to start searching for my family. Right now I am recovering from a rather serious surgery so it will be a little while yet before I am ready for adoption. I just want to give you a preview about me as I start my journey in rescue. My foster mom says I've been a very good patient as I had to have some mammary tumors removed when they did my spay surgery as well as most of my teeth due to them being in such terrible condition. I may have been a breeder dog for someone but because I was found as a stray in Franklin County, that would only be a guess as I can't tell my foster mom my real story. I am loving it here in my foster home, really nice furkids to play with when I'm able and many wonderful soft and warm beds for me to cuddle in. I am a little Maltese girl of about 5-7 years of age and I am working to be a very healthy pup here soon. Because I was most likely neglected most of my life, it is going to take a little time to make me healthy and beautiful again. I like other dogs, seem to have very good potty manners, and only bark when I am left alone...........probably just a little anxiety due to all the new experiences I am currently having. I'm hoping that will change as I become more comfortable in my foster home and learn the routine. I do very well in my crate at night or when my foster family is away. I seem to have fairly good behavior as I listen very well to my foster mom, but I'm still learning. Due to my surgery, my foster mom has not been able to walk me yet, so my leash training will begin as soon as my stitches are removed about 1/30/12. My foster mom will give you updates on my medical condition as the info becomes available. Until then, please keep me in your prayers and think about whether you would like to share your life with me. I would love you forever and really want a family that will love me that same way. Puppy kisses, Marie:-)) UPDATE 2/1/12: Good news, my pathology report was excellent and no cancer was found in the mammary tumors and surrounding tissue. I will soon be scheduled for the removal of the other mammary tumor. I am doing much better since the removal of my stitches.......enjoying play time with the other pups here in my foster home and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE running around in the fenced backyard:-))....and "talking" with the neighbor's dog. My potty manners are continuing to improve, but I've not yet figured out how to let my foster mom know when I need to potty - she just makes sure I get out for potty breaks regularly. I've been enjoying "family" time in front of the tv in the evenings with my foster family, especially when I get to cuddle with my foster mom in her favorite chair. I am learning how to walk on a leash, which I think will soon become one of my favorite things to do. I am doing very well with my eating habits, having no problems crunching on the hard dog food since most of my teeth had to be removed. More updates later..............puppy hugs, Marie
More about Marie (ADOPTION PENDING)Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids PLEASE NOTE:
If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website like Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or another search engine (the OFP website is www.ohiofuzzypawz.com), not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the
individual webpage of our dogs
, you will be able to get more information each dog.
Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
