Shih Tzu : : Male : : Young : : Small
*** MULLIGAN HAS AN ADOPTION PENDING *** I would like to introduce you to Mulligan. He was rescued out of a local animal shelter just hours prior to his scheduled euthanasia on January 2nd. He was a stray who was never claimed, and fortunately for Mulligan, he has had a great start to 2011. This little gem of a Shih Tzu is approximately 9 months to a year old. He is a very well behaved and polite puppy whom we have nicknamed Mr. Happy.
Mulligan is crate trained, house broken, and walks well on a leash with a harness. He knows basic commands and loves to ride in the car. I do not crate him on rides, because he will lie on a pillow and fall asleep. He likes cats and is comfortable meeting new dogs and people. One of his favorite spots to visit is the pet store so he can find the cats up for adoption and sit with them. He is good with men, women, and children and may be shy at first, but quickly warms up. Mulligan is not a barker and seldom vocalizes. He enjoys cuddling in bed or on your lap on the sofa. He interacts very well with his 5 foster siblings, and engages in doggie play and does not play too rough with them. Mulligan only plays with toys and chewies that you give him. He is not a destructive fellow. I bathe him weekly, which he is enjoying more than he did at the beginning, and he sits very still beside me when we clean his ears every night. I am able to remove items from his mouth and he is not food aggressive. It is a must, that his new family owns a flashlight or laser pointer light, lol. Mulligan loves to try and catch the light on the floor or walls, because it is one of his favorite indoor games. He is also very proficient at getting belly rubs by flopping on his back and giving you The Look with his big brown eyes. Mulligan is a small boy, under 15 lbs. He is still gaining weight and getting stronger. He is a medium energy level dog, but still has puppy energy. He is very easy to manage and strives to be with his people and wants to please them. Mulligan would be happy to be an only dog, or live with another dog or two. It is very likely that he was previously treated harshly, so a kind voice goes a long way with him. He was very fearful and wanted to hide from loud voices and noises when we brought him home. We are also careful not to make sudden or aggressive movements toward him. He is now a brave little boy and has become very confident and curious. He has proven himself able to learn new skills very quickly. Mulligan requires a daily walk as well as frequent bathroom breaks outside, because he is still a youngster. He is on a regular schedule which helps him not to have any accidents. Mulligan will have his first professional grooming the last week of January and will be neutered the following week. He will be available for adoption the second week of February. If you feel that Mulligan would be the perfect new family member for you, please fill out and submit an application to Ohio Fuzzy Pawz. A home visit and reference check will be required prior to finalizing his adoption. Mulligan is being fostered in Columbus, Ohio and is current on his vetting and vaccinations. If you would like more information, please contact his foster mom at rhuffma9@columbus.rr.com Mulligan will be making his Mingle with the Mutts debut on February 20th. He would love to meet you, especially if you have a flashlight. *** PLEASE NOTE: We do adopt out of state; however, we do not ship our dogs. We do try to work with out of state adopters by assisting with transports, but in some instances, the adopters may have to come to Ohio to pick up their dog. *** PLEASE NOTE:
If you are viewing this biography on a website other than the Ohio Fuzzy Pawz website like Petfinder, Adopt-a-Pet, or another search engine (the OFP website is www.ohiofuzzypawz.com), not all information transfers to partner websites in some instances. If you go to the
individual webpage of our dogs
, you will be able to get more information each dog.
Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
