Jett's adoption donation is $400 and he is being fostered in Dayton, Ohio.  He has been neutered, microchipped, received his rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordetella vaccines, tested negative for heartworms and started on prevention as well as flea prevention.

Talk about a fun little 1 year old, 11 pound Havanese/Mini Schnauzer/Yorkie? sweetie!!   His coloring is all black with small bits of white on his paws, chest, and the scruff of his chinny-chin-chin!   Jett was found as a stray and rescued by OFP from a kill shelter.  This sweetheart is eager for your attention, following you around the house, and already knows how to sit very nicely and on command!  

He loves to chew on toys (squeaky rubber balls, antlers, hooves, nylabones) and play fetch (though sometimes he just gets so excited about the chase that he forgets to bring the ball back to you!)  Jett is a whiz at getting the yummy treat out of a bento ball and also walks well on a leash.  
Jett would do best if his new home has dogs his size or larger.  As he can be a bit of a rough and tumble boy (as many little terrier boys are!), often he will play-leap and knock over smaller dogs without meaning to hurt them...But it can be quite annoying/intimidating to the smaller pups.  And of course, he loves to play with his young foster fursister- check out the 2 videos on his page!  Jett enjoys exploring the outdoors in his fenced-in backyard, but he is quick to come inside when you call.   He is crate-trained at night and has done well with potty-training when taken outside on a schedule.   From his time as a stray dealing with fleas, his hair became thin in spots, but now that the fleas are gone and he's eating grain-free food (with a little extra fish oil thrown in!), his coat is growing fuller and thicker.  

We've also noticed Jett has little fits of reverse sneezing when he gets too excited or eats too quickly. But he runs right to you so you can gently place your hands on him, helping him to calm within seconds.  Jett is also a good little watch dog; when he hears something suspicious outside, he will let you know! But he is very re-directable and stops barking once he knows you know.

Surprisingly, Jett is a little shy of new people coming into the home (but he's NEVER aggressive). We've found the best way to help him feel comfortable FAST is for someone new to just hold him! He will sniff your face and warm right up after a few minutes!

Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Our Adoption Process

Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog.  We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved.  It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.

Special Requirements

Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable.  If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence.  Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets. 

The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms.  The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information.  If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed.  Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.  No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.   At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.

Out of State Adoptions

We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.  We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
