Poodle (Miniature) (long coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Small
Mikayla's adoption donation is $275 and she is being fostered in Central Ohio. She has been spayed, microchipped, received her rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella, and tested negative for heartworm and started on prevention. She has also been started on flea prevention and received a dental. MiKayla is a 5 yr old, 12 lb silver and beige poodle. She has liver points and amber eyes. She came into rescue from a kill shelter and had completely shut down in the shelter environment. She was in a horribly matted condition as well but patiently allowed for the grooming to be completed. She is such a sweet girl and just needed a break and a loving home. She is timid yet loves to be held and near her person. She has not had a lot of experience on a leash and therefore will need a home with a fenced yard. MiKayla has gotten much more comfortable in her foster home and enjoys playing with the other dogs in the home. She can be pretty tolerant of other dogs who can tend to be "annoying." She needs to be loved and enjoys being with people that are kind and calm. High energy and loud situations can be stressful for her. This little girl needs some much deserved TLC and someone to be patient in helping her gain self confidence. MiKayla is a bright girl and learned many adaptive skills while taking care of herself. She has excellent potty manners and knows how to use a doggy door. MiKayla prefers women and is cautiously working on her trust with men. for this reason MiKayla will need a home that is either without men or a man that does not 'need' her attention at this time. We see improvement but there is a long way to go. She showed no interest in cats whatsoever and is indifferent to them. Due to Mikayla's poor previous condition and care, we will only consider applications with a veterinary and grooming history of outstanding care for previous pets.
Update on MiKayla 11/26/12 She continues to improve. She is working better on a leash and harness and comes wagging her tail when she sees her person come home. She has even improved with her ability to go into a crate and not react with a frightened response. She still is very nervous and fearful with new situations but a home with consistancy and understanding will go a long way for this little girl. She mostly wants to be where her people are and she is content to lay beside you or even on your lap. Although she can be terrified at times there have been no situations that she has ever tried to defend herself. Her response is either a fearful flight or roll over and completely submit. She has been through it all yet still she enjoys and craves being loved More about MiKayla (ADOPTION PENDING)Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Hypoallergenic, Requires a yard, Cratetrained, Timid, Intelligent, Gentle PLEASE NOTE:

, you will be able to get more information each dog.
Visual breed identification in dogs can be unreliable so, in many cases, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
The adoption process has several steps involved.
Please review prior to submitting an application.
Our adoption process is detailed here:
http://www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/info/adoption
Our volunteers work very diligently to process each application and we try to ensure that we are making the best match possible for each dog. We do not schedule meetings with dogs until an application has been approved. It can take up to a few weeks to process an application or as little time as a few days, from the time you submit an application, please be prepared to adopt as we cannot hold dogs.
Some dogs may have special requirements (for example, medications, a fence) -- if you apply for a dog, please be sure to read over the biography completely to see if there are any special needs and if you're home would be suitable. If we indicate on the dog's biography that a fence is required, this means your home must have a physical fence. Other dogs may require a "strong vet reference" which indicates that we are looking for a home that has a documented history of veterinary care with previous pets.
The first step in our process is to submit an online adoption application at www.ohiofuzzypawz.com/forms. The application MUST include the personal references and veterinary, grooming, and landlord references (if applicable) and their respective contact information. If you do not include the references and the contact information, your application will be delayed as it CANNOT be processed. Once the references have been successfully completed, a home visit is then scheduled when a rescue representative can meet all members of the family or residents of the home.
No application is approved prior to the home visit being done.
At that point, the Directors will discuss any and all applications on a foster dog and make a selection--in many cases, there are multiple applications for each dog, so please be understanding that our only priority is the successful placement of each of our foster dogs.
We do adopt out of state to outstanding applicants, however, our process requires a home visit, so out of state adoptions can take longer.
We do not ship our dogs, adopters should be prepared to pick up the dog in Central Ohio.
